West Miami Middle Community School
is located on nine acres in the center
of Miami-Dade County. The school has
served the area since 1954
and represents a respected and valued
community resource.
Student enrollment is 1133, a
decrease of 26% from the 2003 - 2004
school year to the present, due in part
to changes in the surrounding area. The West Miami
Middle School neighborhood is predominately Hispanic,
reflecting a mix of families from
Central and South America.
West Miami Middle Community School
earned an 'A' in School Performance for
the 2007 - 2008 school year. Students scoring FCAT Level 1 and 2
in Reading and Math declined by 2 and 3
percentage points respectively. Students
with Disabilities met Safe Harbor
standards in Reading which is
attributable to the inclusion rates in
Language Arts classes.
The 2007 - 2008 school year also showed
improvement in attendance and a decline
in suspension rates, and truancy. The school has
implemented an alternative to suspension
that has helped to impact
suspension rates. Attendance Review
Committee meetings were held throughout
the school year which contributed to the
improvement in student attendance.
West Miami Middle Community School
delivers a co-teaching Inclusion
program. 82.62% of the Students with
Disabilities (SWD) participate with
non-disabled students representing an

Inclusion program are in resource room
classes. 8.7 percent of our student
population participates in the Gifted

population is second language learners. Twelve percent of our student population
are English Language Learners (ELL).

curriculum content area courses in Math,
Science, and Social Studies. ESOL Level
II, III, and IV students are included in
the general education classes. The ESOL
students also receive services through
the Home Language Assistance Program (HLAP)
which assists students using the home

providing a translational/tutorial
