The
West Miami Middle school science
department consists of an exciting group
of science professionals who encompass a
wide range of education and creativity.
Our science department projects real
world experiences, critical thinking
skills, and multidimensional visuals
that excite our learners as well as
prepare them for future careers and
endeavors.
Our course curriculum
include comprehensive science for 6th,
7th, and 8th grade, advanced placement,
gifted, and Earth space science. All our
classes’ curriculum range from
chemistry, ecology and astronomy with
consistent reference to FCAT preparation
and skills. The advanced classes follow
the same curriculum; however, teachers
focus on challenging student’s abilities
while promoting more critical thinking
skills. The Earth space class is an
honor leveled class that incorporates
the 8th grade curriculum into the 9th
grade Earth space course.
Our department uses
many forms of technology to assist in
presenting the material, such as Vernier
Probes, Gizmos, digital scales,
microscopes, and GPS navigation tools.
Some of teachers have performed above
and beyond their professional duties by
receiving advanced degrees, becoming
nationally board certified, attend
science conferences, and assist in the
community.
To boost our
curriculum the science department
promotes field trips to engage students
in field experience that enhances
learning. In addition, we promote two
clubs, the science department
environmental club, that reinforces
scientific concepts related to real
world experiences.
Overall, we strive to
present the most comprehensive and
enlightening material for the betterment
of the future of our students and
school. We choose to work together as a
team building a foundation for a
stronger department. |
